Motor Pumps Frequently Asked Questions

An electrical motor is a device that can convert electrical energy to mechanical energy.

The general classification is given below.

Generally, AC Squirrel cage induction motors are used in water pumps. Other type of motors can be used to drive a water pump depending on the source of power and the application.

The motor is used as a prime mover to drive any load. When the torque generated by the motor is insufficient to drive the load, the motor stalls.

When the motor stalls, check the loading on the motor and try to reduce it.  If the motor keeps stalling, take the assistance of a qualified service personnel for any electrical / mechanical damages or capacitor failures.

Caution:   Continuing to operate a motor in its stalled state can be detrimental to the life of the motor.

Servicing and troubleshooting must be handled by qualified persons with proper tools and equipment. So, Contact the dealer where the pump was purchased or click the link the get our nearest service center details. https://www.taropumps.com/contact/find-a-service-center

An electric motor works on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction and Lenz law.

As the voltage is applied to the stator coils, they are energised in pairs, in sequence, producing a rotating magnetic field. This magnetic field induces an electric current in the rotor. The induced current produces its own magnetic field that tries to oppose the thing that caused it (the magnetic field from the stator coils). The interaction between the two fields causes the rotor to turn.

The motor is a prime mover that drives any mechanical device or machine. The shaft of the motor needs to be aligned to the mechanical device to transmit the torque appropriately. The alignment ensures that the centre of the motor and the mechanical device are in line and the loads are evenly distributed.

The method of alignment will depend on the type of connection being made between the motor and the mechanical device.  Example below shows the alignment of a motor shaft with a pulley to a driven pulley.
