Sewage Pumps Frequently Asked Questions

Sewage pumps are designed to drain out waste liquids and semi-solids that contaminate home basements and other secluded areas to a sewer system or a septic tank. The pumping action is created by vortex force wherein the solid particles will not come in contact with the impeller, which reduces the wear. A sewage pump is installed at the lowest point of the sewage basin with the basin itself placed at or below the floor level of the basement.

How do submersible sewage pumps work
Sewage pumps are designed to drain out waste liquids and semi-solids and all types of industrial waste water from a sewage basin to a sewer system or a septic tank.

Sewage pump costs depend on the capacity of the pump. Texmo Industries manufactures sewage pumps of various capacities and applications at affordable prices and 2 years warranty*. Please refer to our product selector or contact your nearest Taro Pumps dealer.

Please follow the below procedure for sewage pump installation

  1. Locate the tank near the sewer line.
  2. Place the pump in the basin and connect the discharge line to the pump. Two pipe openings are placed in the sewage and lid.
  3. For sanitary purposes, sewage tanks must be sealed with an air-tight cover, so make sure the pump discharge is aligned with cover’s discharge port.
  4. Install a check valve in a horizontal section of the discharge line. This will work as a back flow preventer.
  5. Install and adjust the liquid level sensors, according to the model of pump purchased. Pour water into the septic tank several times while testing the activation and turn off switch positions.
  6. When satisfied with the pumps performance, make sure you seal the sewage tank cover and vent the tank properly.
  7. To prevent dirt and debris from entering the tank, complete all cement flatwork before proceeding further.

Yes. Sewage pumps are built with heavy-duty materials and components to withstand the worst elements, which enables sewage pumps to usually last a long time.

Yes, sewage pumps are known to run noisily during their operation.

There are some instances which can cause a sewage pump to run more loudly than usual:

  • If an oversized pump is installed in a small basin, it will pump more water than the basin can accommodate.
  • If the discharge pipe to the sewage pump connects to the sewage pipes, you may notice a vibrating noise as the pump circulates the water through the plumbing system.

No. When installed properly, Sewage ejector pumps are sealed so that no waste or smell can come out of the top of the basin.

A good sewage ejector pump should last at least 7-10 years. However, with proper installation and maintenance, a sewage pump can last for over 30 years.
